SHED Africa (Center for Secured Health and Environmental Development Initiatives) is a non-governmental organization founded in 1998 with a strong commitment to the interconnectedness of healthy human communities and thriving ecosystems.
We recognize that the well-being of coastal and high forest ecosystems is deeply linked to the health of the people who live in and around them. Women and youth play vital roles in maintaining healthy communities. When their financial status and opportunities improve, the benefits extend to stronger families, better health outcomes, and more sustainable environmental practices. We believe that communities both urban and rural are more likely to conserve and protect natural resources when they directly experience the benefits of sustainable utilization.
